Obituary for Mrs. R.W. Cunnyngham
Mary Florence, daughter of the late J.R. Callaway and wife of R.W. 
Cunnyngham, was born in Polk county April 18, 1854, died at her home 
southeast of Bolivar June 29, 1898.  Her parents came to this section
from Tennessee in 1839, her father, Rev. Joseph R. Callaway, being the 
well known pioneer Baptist minister and a noted figure in this county 
up to the time of his death in 1891.  Mary Florence became the wife of 
R.W. Cunnyngham April 18, 1869.  She was the mother of seven children, 
four daughters and three sons, Gus, Ben, Willie, Etta, wife of Heth 
Hart, Altha, wife of Alex Farris, and Dicy. (note the omission of 
the 4th daughter Joanna Batten) She professed religion in her thirteenth
year and united with the Baptist Church, and after her marriage joined
the Morrisville church, M.E. South.  Furneral services were conducted
last Thursday at Mt. Gilead by Rev. G.H. Higginbotham.

News reached town this morning of the death of Mrs. R.W. Cunnyngham 
(sic) at her home four miles southeast of Bolivar.  Her death is said 
to have resulted from measles.  She had partially recovered but suffered 
a relapse, and died at a late hour last night.

  ELLA FLORENCE SLAGLE
 Ella Florence Slagle, 73, died at the 
home of her adopted son, Creed 
Slagle, eight miles south of Bolivar,
Saturday morning following a linger-
ing illness.  She spent her entire life
in the community in which she died.
 She is survived by her husband,
Austin L. Slagle of the home; five 
grandchildren, two brothers, Joe and 
Walter Callaway, both of Bolivar, 
and a sister, Mrs. Anna Russell of 
Bolivar.
 Funeral services will be at 10
o'clock Monday morning in Slagle
Baptist Church with burial in Slagle
cemetery under direction of Erwin
and Blue of Bolivar.

   REV. AUSTIN L. SLAGLE
 Rev. Austin L. Slagle, 86 year
old native of Polk County, died
about 3 a.m. today at the home
of a son, Creed Slagle, three miles
south of Brighton, after a three-
year illness.
 Rev. Slagle had been an ordained
minister in the Baptist church for
about 50 years and spent his life
in the Slagle community near Bol-
ivar.
 In addition to his son, Rev. Slagle
is survived by a brother, W. E. 
Slagle of Brighton; a sister, Mrs.
Ruby Wilcox of Bolivar; and two
half-sisters, Mrs. Rena Boswell of
Morrisville and Mrs. Anna Crock-
ett of Springfield.
 Funeral arrangements are under 
the direction of Erwin-Blue of Bol-
ivar.

etery, under direction of Erwin-
Blue of Bolivar.
 The Rev. Slagle died Thursday
in the home of a son, Creed Slagle,
three miles south of Brighton.
